General Announcements
Starting in March, the winning Royal teams will receive a prize of a period computer PC game, such as Stronghold or Medieval Total War. This is to encourage royals to play out their terms and to encourage new people to take on the positions and give them a shot.
Due to the huge volume of spam that is now received by both the Bugs Team and the Staff, we are requesting that email sent to the staff about the game adhere to the following guidelines:
The Bugs Team and Staff are no longer required to read all email that comes to their account. If they cannot recognize that the email is clearly about HYW business, and there seems to be anything suspicious about the email or there is an attachment of any sort, the staff has been instructed to delete the email unread. Sadly, the ratio of legitimate HYW mail to spam, virus attacks and advertisments is about 1 to 100. Please help us to help you and make it clear you are contacting us.
HYW Bugs, Bugs Team Lead
All HYW accounts must have a valid email address from a paid ISP account, or a free ISP that requires personal, verifiable information from you. We will no longer be accepting free email accounts as valid email addresses for account purposes, since they are far too easy to create and throw away.
StrategyWorld reserves the right to add to our list of unacceptable email providers at any time if we see problems occurring from them.
The papal blessing rule has been changed to make it clear that only one blessing per year per PC is allowed. There are a few other minor changes as well.
The Siege probability table has been changed making it more difficult to take keeps with a keep level greater than 50, especially during long sieges. The new probabilities are in the docs.
The software now inserts a notice in the Herald that the update has taken place. Thus anyone playing into the update will be caught and punished (up to and including expulsion from the game). To avoid this fate, you should get out of the game 5-10 minutes before the update begins. In HYW 2.0, the system will toss players out of the game before the update begins.
Fiefs that are pillaged now can have their "fields" reduced to .1, rather than the previous 1. This means that you can no longer get an unrealistic amount of loot pillaging certain fiefs that have had their fields reduced to 1.
The Pope (22) position is played on a rotating basis, with the player in the position rotating out of the game when the PC dies. In some games a second player will occupy the 73 position so as to gain an understanding of the game, and will become 22 upon the death of the previous PC. In other games the Sysop will simply bring in a new Curia player upon the death of the Pope. Papal players are drawn from a pool called "The Curia".
If a member of The Curia is called to a game that they are already playing in they will have the choice of giving up the position they are playing or passing on the opportunity to play Pope in that game. Under no circumstances will ANY cross-national play be allowed. No alts will be permitted to either the 22 or 73 position. The Sysop always has final say about who plays the position in their game.
To become a member of The Curia you must be a player or staff member in good standing. If you are interested in becoming a member of The Curia, please send an email to the Chief Sysop and ask to be placed on the list (HYWLady@hyw.com).
Members of The Curia will be expected to take two 1 hour classes on the history of the Papacy and Mechanics of playing the position before they will be allowed to join a game as Pope. Anyone interested in playing the Pope may become a member of The Curia so long as they are willing to attend the class and then comply with the guidelines set out for the position. Failure to comply with the guidelines results in being removed from the Curia.
Restrictions on the Papal position include strictures about acquiring non-ancestral lands (must be approved by both HRE, KoE and Roi); aquisition of non-ancestral Provincial Overlordships (not allowed); and no undue or extreme usury. The possibility of the Game Sysop adding other restrictions or even a tax on the Church`s purse exists as well, although such additions will be clearly posted in the Sysop`s Game Page Variants.
As you know, we are working to improve the quality of the rules and adding new ones as the need arises. The following is being added to the docs and will be implemeneted across all games immediately:
If a PC`s family line dies out, meaning that the PC dies and the system informs the player his PC has died and there are no heirs, and removes the player from the game, while the PC is outlawed then that player cannot rejoin the game in the same nationality as the PC family that died out for 30 days. This applies to all aliases registered to the same master account as that of the PC whose family died out.
